The Annual Meeting of The Cathedral of Saint John, Providence, RI, was held today, February 7, 2010, after the 9:30 AM Eucharist. The Very Reverend Harry E. Krauss, Dean of the Cathedral gave a rousing sermon at the Eucharist based on today's gospel which addressed, "The Second Great Calling: What Does This Mean for Us?".
The Dean asked us all to imagine the outcome of a 100% involvement in action for our parish. He has challenged us all to look inside and to decide how we can participate in the active life and work of the Cathedral.
At the Annual Meeting, elections were held for the Chapter and the Dean gave an update on the Cathedral Close development. He announced the formation of the 1722 Sociaty, which has a goal of rasing $500,000.00 for Phase Two of the Project.
He also announced the formation of the 1810 Society, which is the parish contribution to this same effort. Its goal is to raise $50,000 for the Project. The 1810 Society pledges can be made in one sum or over time, up to a three year pledge. It is the hope of the Dean that all parishioners, from youngest to most senior members contribute something to this effort, so that all will feel a strong bond of community strength as we move forward in this effort.
Anaezi Modu and Deacon Barbara Mays-Stock gave a Powerpoint presentation, launching the new website, www.cathedralofstjohn.org , this new blog and our Twitter address, http://twitter.com/cathedralstjohn .
