Good Day to You!
Welcome to the blog of The Cathedral of Saint John in Providence, Rhode Island, USA. We hope that you will visit us often, to see what's going on.
The Cathedral is located in the city of Providence, which is one of the oldest and most historically steeped cities in the US, and at the same time, a city on the move, incorporating new and innovative businesses and opportunities for living and commerce.
The Cathedral itself was established here in 1724, as King's Chapel, an Anglican church established by Gabrielle Bernon. There will be lots of historical information available for you to read about the Cathedral, once our new website launches in mid-November.
Here is a picture of the Cathedral, taken at the wedding of our bishop, The Rt. Rev. Geralyn Wolf to Mr. Tom Bear. The magnificent nave is shown in this photo.

But it's not all seriousness at the Cathedral! Recently, our Dean, The Very Rev. Harry E. Krauss joined in the revelry of the CVS Road race, and sprinkled Holy Water, prayers and good wishes on the runners ad they passed in front of the Cathedral. You can see that the Dean really enjoyed this opportunity to engage in such a fun way with our local community!

On Friday, October 23, at 6 PM, the 2009 Diocesan Convention will convene, with a Festival Holy Eucharist to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Saint John's as the Cathedral of our Diocese. Immediately following, there will be areception. All members of the Diocese are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Our staff of deacons, a seminarian and many dedicated lay workers combine their efforts with the Dean to reach out to the needs of the wider community. A weekly Meal Site is operated at the Cathedral each Tuesday, offering a hot dinner and fellowship to those in need. We have a Food Pantry, which helps to feed approximately 90 families a week, and the number seems to grow larger all the time. We have a knitting ministry which provides Prayer Shawls, afghans, hats, mittens and scarves to those in need of them. And our growing ministry of Hospitality has shown that we have some very talented people here!
Take a look at our website when it launches, or just come by and introduce yourself. Holy Eucharist is at 8:30 and 10:30 AM on each Sunday and 12:15 on Wednesday afternoons.
The Cathedral of Saint John welcomes you!
